The French Connection II

Here comes this news, courtesy of Burak Gazan on www.stardestroyer.net

March 1, 2005: Without much publicity, France has moved the replenishment ship Var to the eastern Mediterranean. The Var contains facilities for running commando operations, as well as facilities for about 200 commandoes and their equipment.

Looks like the French are going to intervene in Lebanon.

EDIT:

The Great Leader Says:
The morons at strategypage strike again. The French are not going to stage commando operations off a replenishment ship against Syria. Var is a member of the Durance class, which happens to be armed with one 40mm cannon, two 20mm cannon and two heavy machine guns. None of the weapons have radar fire control and even if the ship had Mistral MANPADS missile teams on her deck she would still be hopelessly vulnerable to Syrian air or naval attacks. Such counter strikes would be a certainty if French commandos start showing up.

We can take note that something might be going to happen whenever French or American warships armed with effective weapons show up. In fact, so long as a very poorly protected French replenishment ship is steaming off the coast, we can be pretty confident that nothing will happen. Now if Var suddenly happens to spawn an escort and CdG arrives with her Rafales, then we have something brewing.
