Selective Ignorance and the Iranian Bomb.

The sheer blindness I'm seeing in anything relating to the Iranian nuclear program amongst liberals is just astounding

There's no real reason for people to blindly believe it's a civilian program; not with all the evidence and satellite photographs of superbunkers, and the appointment of IRGC generals to run most of Iran's government; yet liberals continue to deny the conclusions that you HAVE to come to when you put two and two together to get four in relation to the Iranian program.

The only explanation for this blindness is that those people WANT Iran to get the Bomb, no matter how deleterious it is to the foreign policy calculus in the Middle East, as a way of humilating the United States, and by extension ChimpyMcHitler Bush on the foreign policy front.

Talk about cutting your own nose off to spite your enemy; there is no indication at all that a nuclear armed Iran will be any better for the world as a whole.

These people are supposed to be Intelligent and logical thinkers, yet they refuse to put the pieces together, so that's the only solution I can come up with as to WHY they can't or won't put the pieces together.

Some among our idiot class no doubt do want the Persians to have their bomb -- anything to stick it into the eye of the US. Others assume we'll muddle through somehow, as if parading through powder magazines with a lit match on one occasion assures that similar marches on all subsequent occasions will not incur explosions.

I think though, for most people who take a blasé view of the issue: the problem is, as it was for those who would not confront Hitler at Munich -- was the desire, as (I think) Telford Taylor put it, to have our holidays first, to have quietness for just a little longer. The snake will not be confronted before it is grown. The threat of doom must be imminent, and not just potential.
